classes

Youth pompon and dance classes are offered in three sessions throughout the year. The Winter session runs January through May; the short Summer session typically runs during mid-July and August; the Fall session runs September through December. Both the Winter and the Fall sessions conclude with the option to perform in our recital. For current specific session dates, please visit our Sign Up and Pricing Page. All classes have a pre-determined maximum number of students depending on the age of the students and the size of the studio that the class will take place in.

Pompon

Mid American Studio is the leader in pompon training for students as young as kindergarten. The studio is a division of Mid American Pompon, the industry leader in pompon instruction in the state of Michigan, hosting pompon camps and competitions for thousands of Junior High, High School and Collegiate Pom participants each year since 1979. Pompon involves precise movements, impressive kicklines, and skills such as splits, kicks and a variety of jumps. Each class begins with a warm-up and stretching section to improve flexibility and cardio vascular endurance. Over the course of the session, students will learn a full routine which involves multiple formation changes as well as visually effective arm movements that are enhanced with the use of pompoms. Pompon is often confused with cheerleading; although many moves are similar, pompon routines are set to music, and do not involve vocal cheering as cheerleading does. Pompon does not include mounts, gymnastics or tumbling.

High School Pom Skills

This class is designed for students in grades 8th and up who are interested in trying out for their High School pompon team. In addition to the basic pompon class description above, students will focus on the actual tryout process and how to have a successful tryout. A mock tryout will be conducted to familiarize students with performing in a small group in front of judges, and each student will receive a judging sheet that will list specific areas that they excelled in during their tryout, as well as areas that are in need of improvement. Routines are taught at an accelerated level to help students learn how to quickly pick up and retain material.
